OTC Quick Facts

Did you know that from April 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010:

  • 82 workshops were provided to over 3500 individuals.  Seventeen of the 82 workshops involved teachers from First Nations schools.
  • Approximately 232 Treaty Kits and 3500 Treaty Essential Learnings documents were distributed, plus numerous individual booklets and materials.
  • There are over 1000 educators and 30 Elders who are a part of the Treaty Learning Network.
  • 116 Catalyst Teachers from throughout the province were trained to support their schools and school divisions in implementing Treaty Education.
Workshops

More OTC workshops will be scheduled for the fall.  K to 6 Make n' Take Workshops, The History of Treaty Making-Day 1, and Teaching Treaties in the Classroom-Day 2 are workshops offered by the Office of the Treaty Commissioner.  If you are interested in attending contact Susan Beaudin at 1.306.529.5090 or email sbeaudin@sasktel.net

Ideas for Catalyst Teachers

Below are 9 ideas for Catalyst Teachers to assist in implemeting Treaty Education in your school or school division:

  • Tour the updated OTC website with teachers.
  • Share the Treaty Kit contents with your colleagues.
  • Review the Grade 7 Survey reports.
  • Review the K-6 curriculum links for Treaty Education from the Ministry of Education.
  • Ensure staff are familiar with the K-6 and 7 to 12 Themes and Topics.
  • Give an overview of the Treaty Essential Learnings at a staff meeting.
  • Play a PowerPoint activity or use a SMART Board activity with teachers.
  • Survey your colleagues to find out which workshops, from the Office of the Treaty Commissioner, they would like to participate in.
