A Message from the Treaty Commissioner
The Office of the Treaty Commissioner hopes you had a wonderful summer full of relaxation. The OTC schedule for the upcoming year includes celebrating the 20th anniversary of the OTC. The celebration will leave a legacy of additional resources to support Treaty Education by focusing on the accomplishments of Treaty Land Entitlement.
|
During 2009-2010 OTC will continue to enhance its livelihood and economic independence program by drawing more business and industry partners into the OTC network. Also, we will continue our public education programs through Teaching Treaties in the Classroom, the Speakers Bureau, and the Executive Treaty Education Program.
Through these efforts we continue to strive to assist First Nations people take their rightful place in the Saskatchewan community, for We Are All Treaty People.
The Honourable Bill McKnight

What is a K-6 Make n’ Take Workshop?
This is a hands-on workshop for Kindergarten to Grade 6 teachers usually for specific grade levels (i.e. Grade 1) but it can be tailored to meet the needs of the group. The morning begins with a First Nation’s Elder talking about his/her worldview both historical and contemporary; followed by time spent going through the Themes and Topics matrix from K – Grade 6. The teachers are asked to work in groups to develop a step by step lesson in any subject area using the craft materials available. They use the K – Grade 6 Treaty Resource Guides for their specific grade level. Those teachers that prefer to create a role-play or simulation lesson have that choice. Plenty of time is given to teachers. The lessons are shared with the group then added to OTC Wikispace online. An additional objective is to have fun while learning about treaties.
