Dr. Sheelah McLean has been teaching in secondary and adult education for 25 years, and as an instructor in Educational Foundations at the University of Saskatchewan for 12 years. Sheelah’s research and activism focus on using anti-racist theory and praxis in order to address systems of inequality in a colonial context. As one of the co-founders of the Idle No More movement, her goal is to work on projects that build scholarship and praxis in order to address the issues faced by marginalized groups, particularly focusing on the historical legacy of oppression experienced by Indigenous Peoples within a white settler society. Sheelah has received many honors for her work in social justice including the University of Saskatchewan Alumni of Influence Award (2014-2015) and The Carol Gellar Human Rights Award (2013).
