On Mar. 3, Historica Canada (the people who make Heritage Minutes) launched a new, three-part podcast series as part of their Residential Schools Awareness Campaign.

The series, “Residential Schools,” is funded by the federal government. It is meant to commemorate the history and legacy of residential schools in Canada and honour the stories of Survivors, their families, and communities.

Each episode in the series focuses on a different Indigenous experience at residential school, told through testimony from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Survivors. Interviews with academics, including Dr. Niigaanwewidam James Sinclair from the University of Manitoba; Dr. Tricia Logan from the University of British Columbia’s Residential School History and Dialogue Centre; and Dr. Crystal Gail Fraser from the University of Alberta provide a historical and, at times, personal account of the residential school system in Canada.

The series will be released in installments beginning on March 3, then March 10, and March 17. Historica also offers a video series, an education guide, and several new entries on The Canadian Encyclopedia about the history and legacy of residential schools.
