Have you ever participated in a Kairos Blanket Exercise?
The exercise helps build understanding of our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treat-making, colonization and resistance. Participants are actively involved in this exercise.
Great Plains College, the City of Warman and the Mennonite Central Committee are hosting a Kairos Blanket Exercise on October 3, 2024. This event is free and open to the community.
The Blanket Exercise is based on using Indigenous methodologies and the goal is to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance. Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy.
An Indigenous Knowledge Keeper will be present to guide and share with the group throughout this exercise.
