In the fall of 2015, a group of Indigenous students in the Department of Drama at the University of Saskatchewan began an adventure into a new kind of performing arts program: the wîcêhtowin - Aboriginal Theatre Program. The two-year program culminates in a world premiere of an original Indigenous theatre piece that will add to the development and evolution of Indigenous theatre in Canada. This piece is created, designed and performed by the program participants, providing them with an opportunity to integrate their own personal cultural explorations and give them contemporary expression.
The performances on Tuesday and Wednesday evening will be staged outdoors on the lawn of the John Mitchell building (weather permitting – moving inside to Greystone Theatre if necessary). The performances on Thursday evening and Friday afternoon will be performed at the Greystone Theatre, with the Frida, June 2nd, performance also being livestreamed at 2PM.
