This year marked the fourth anniversary of Rock Your Roots: Walk for Reconciliation, an event the Office of the Treaty Commissioner has been pleased to be part of since the beginning.

This year we asked for feedback from participants about their experience through a short online survey. We were exploring the impact that Rock Your Roots: Walk for Reconciliation had for the people who attended and to help plan for next year's walk.

We were able to create a report from their responses. The 2019 Rock Your Roots Report is available online here.

We also received some wonderful comments (and helpful feedback) about the walk. Here are some of them:

“The opportunity to express our respect to the survivors at the end of the walk was very much appreciated. I don’t often have the ability to make this meaningful gesture.”

“I am new to the area and still learning about Indigenous and Non-Indigenous histories in Saskatchewan and the racial tensions that exist in this area. Rock your Roots was a meaningful experience because it felt like a positive and celebratory event that made reconciliation feel not only extremely important but also very possible. I appreciated all of the yellow signs that explained aspects of reconciliation.”

“It is meaningful to me to walk together with people of all different backgrounds in solidarity and harmony. I especially love honouring summer solstice and [Indigenous Peoples] day out doors walking together ‘shared footprints.’ The atmosphere is so refreshing - it creates a sense oneness and kingship.”
