The lobby of the Broadway Theatre was packed with media and supporters of the ConnectR website for the official launch on Jan. 22, 2019.
“ConnectR was designed to help people connect with resources, help them find personal calls to action that related to their interests and their lives because we knew to get people taking this kind of action, we needed to relate to who they are as individuals,” said Carrie Catherine, one of the committee coordinators during the launch.
She adds that the site is a tool, but it alone cannot create Reconciliation. To have real Reconciliation people need to meet, learn from and be with each other.
“I want to ensure that this world will be safe for when I am no longer here,” said Betty Pewapsconias, the ConnectR youth champion coordinator.
Pewapsconias and six youth champions will document their engagement with the ConnectR website.
“We to find ways to incorporate the calls to action in our lives and work to encourage the Saskatoon community to do the same,” she said.
Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark, Shirley Isbister from the Central Urban Métis Federation Inc., and Elder Gilbert Kewistep each shared their excitement for the website during the launch.
Kewistep also led a pipe ceremony before the website went online last year.
“I have to do this for my children,” he said.
“I’m glad I’m a part of this … I commend you all.”
