The Office of the Treaty Commissioner is pleased to be part of the Woodland Cree Gathering 2022 at Lac La Ronge and we invite you to come and spend time with us.
The Lac La Ronge Indian Band community of La Ronge is proud to host the Gathering starting Aug. 23 and running through to Aug. 25. It’s an opportunity for the three Woodland Cree First nations of Montreal Lake Cree Nation, Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, and LLIRB to gather and collaborate on common issues and to build on their strengths. The theme of this year’s event is Working Together to Build Stronger Communities.
The Treaty Commissioner of Saskatchewan is set to bring greetings during the opening ceremonies on Aug. 23, then members of the OTC team and speakers bureau will be making presentations and sharing information with our display booth and through community outreach.
Also, our archives team is continuing to gather oral stories and will be conducting interviews to learn further about the histories of these communities and people.
The event falls on the 133-anniversary year of the Treaty 6 Adhesion signing, which happened at Molanosa, at the north end of Montreal Lake, on Feb. 11, 1889.
