The Office of the Treaty Commissioner is so pleased to congratulate Eleanore Sunchild for becoming the first Indigenous person to receive the Saskatchewan Trial Lawyers Association Outstanding Lawyer award.
Sunchild, a member of the OTC’s speakers bureau, was honoured for her ability and drive to go beyond the call of duty for the benefit of her clients, the legal profession, and furthering causes in justice for the people in Saskatchewan.
Her work has led to furthering race relations and decolonizing education, changes in how juries are selected, and support for ceremonial practices of Indigenous youth. Her work of late was about justice for Colten,” said Mary Culbertson, Treaty Commissioner of Saskatchewan.
“Through all of these she has faced racism, hate and threats, but it doesn’t slow her down. She will continue to stand for justice and continue to do the despite barriers because of the people who stand with her.”
The Treaty Commissioner attended a small virtual gathering in her honour earlier this week.
