Treaty 6 Territory, July 25, 2023 – This Wednesday morning July 26th, motorcycles will be roaring down Highway 11 to Highway 1 flying banners that say SEARCH THE LANDFILL on their way to Treaty 1 Territory. Motorcyclists and bikers from across the Treaty territories and all the way from BC and Treaty 8 are on the ride to show support and solidarity for the families and leaders who are advocating to bring dignity and justice for Morgan Harris, Marcedes Myran, and Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe (Buffalo Woman).

The ride is supported by families, Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, Vice Chief Heather Bear of the FSIN, Chief Kyra Wilson of Long Plain, the Office of the Treaty Commissioner in Saskatchewan and Sunchild Law. It is believed that Marcedes Myran and Morgan Harris were killed by the same man last year. They believe the women's remains were transported to the Prairie Green landfill, in the rural municipality of Rosser northwest of Winnipeg. July 5, Premier Stefanson announced her government will not financially support Prairie Green Landfill search, this announcement was based on citing safety concerns for searchers outlined in a search feasibility report.

"It is imperative that we show our relatives we stand with them we support them and will advocate for the dignity and justice for our women who's remains have been so callously abandoned by our governments." said Redrum’s Nehiw Pekwat MC.

The ride will depart Saskatoon enroute to the Treaties 1 to 11 gathering hosted by Treaty 1 and Brokenhead Ojibway Nation. Riding through Regina on the way to Winnipeg, the caravan will be showing solidarity and bringing awareness for the women whose bodies are in Winnipeg landfills. They also will be stopping in Regina at city hall homeless camp to hand out toiletries and water and then continue on to Highway 1 arriving at the perimeter road in Winnipeg approximately 6 p.m. to join the families and leadership at the Prairie Green Landfill for a rally for awareness. Anyone who wishes to ride along or drive with them are asked to join up along the way.

"We all should be concerned when money is a priority over recovery of the remains over missing Indigenous women. This federal government clearly needs to intervene. It is their policies, it is their colonization in their nation building that has made it a world where women are disposable, make no mistake about it," said Vice Chief Heather Bear.

"The MMIW crisis is not localized it is across turtle island and a direct cause of colonization and the dehumanization of Indigenous women as mere objects and commodities to access lands and resources. These governments need to act immediately if they truly believe in the reconciliation efforts they purport, then they can't pick and choose what parts of reconciliation they wish to participate in, it is for the people to decide what reconciliation is."
