The City of Regina commemerated the official signing of Treaty 4 on Sept. 15, 1874, by flying Treaty 4 flags on the Albert Street Bridge.

“Regina is located on Treaty 4 land and within the traditional territory of the Métis,” said the city's mayor Michael Fougere, in a release.

“Raising Treaty 4 flags on Albert Street honours the contribution Indigenous people have made to the building and shaping of Regina.”

The Treaties are formal agreements between the Crown and First Nations, outlining obligations and expectations. The intent of the Treaties was to create and foster mutually beneficial arrangements that pursue and promote relationships based on friendship, peace and goodwill.

The decision to fly the flags comes from a discussion at a recent Reconciliation Regina meeting. For more information visit Regina.ca.
