The Office of the Treaty Commissioner congratulates the 42 winners of the 2019 University of Saskatchewan Indigenous Achievement Awards.

Candace Wasacase-Lafferty is the director of Indigenous initiatives at the university.

“The winners are living a life of resistance,” she said. “It’s not just about academic involvement.”

Students received recognition for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement from their departments – and nearly every department was present, including Medicine, Law, Indigenous Studies and more.

Each of the winners received a certificate and a unique eagle feather pin. The Gordon Oakes Red Bear Student Centre was packed with supporters of the students.

The awards ceremony was part of a week-long series of events celebrating Indigenous achievements. See more on the U of S website
