Office of the Treaty Commissioner: Statement on Canada 150
Commemoration of HistorySaskatchewan
The Office of the Treaty Commissioner is participating in activities marking Canada’s 150th anniversary. We remain sensitive however to the fact that this anniversary isn’t a celebration for everyone.
We see Canada 150 as a time to acknowledge the history of Canada’s relationship with Indigenous Peoples and an opportunity for us all to gain a greater understanding of that legacy.
The Office of the Treaty Commissioner believes Canada 150 provides a platform for us all to explore our shared past, in order to better understand our current realities, and to dream about our shared future.
The 150th anniversary of Canada is a time to have those conversations, unveil those truths, and together dream about the next 150 years of Canada.
