A Saskatoon girls pee wee hockey team is storming Canada's capital.
The Saskatoon Pee Wee Comet Storm entered and won the Hockey on the Hill contest with a 250 word essay, and this 30-second video focusing on reconciliation. The Truth and Reconciliation Comission's Calls to Action #89 and #90 talk about Indigenous youth in sports.
The team of 11 and 12 year olds will represent Saskatchewan in the Bell Capital Cup being held in Ottawa, Dec 27 to 30, 2017.
In an interview with CBC coach David Crowell, Crowell said he thinks having a blend of Indigenous and non-Indigenous players makes them a more competitive team but more importantly, "it makes us better."
