The OTC presents Legends From Turtle Island with Sharon Meyer for Indigenous Storytelling Month

Sharon Meyer - a status member of Beardy's and Okemasis Cree nation. An educator for 33 years, a Kohkum of four beautiful gifts, a mother of two wonderful daughters, and a wife of ten years! I am presently employed by the North East School Division and my role is the First Nation, Metis, Inuit Education Consultant. I have always had a very creative nature and storytelling allows me to share part of this gift. I have entertained audiences of all ages but prefer to entertain the younger minds - grade 7 and younger! My journey as an educator has opened the door to legends from many Indigenous nations. I honor each nation or knowledge keeper that I carry the legend from - before I share a legend I inform the audience as to where the legend originated from on our Turtle Island. In doing so - I teach the audience members to respect themselves first by respecting the teaching that is gifted to them. I have been taught that no one owns knowledge, we carry the stories from others and experiences of our own that we create into stories.
